Summer is full of pleasures, many of them for the palate, and most counterproductive if we want to show off in a good physical way and our hard work in the gym.
During these days you will find the opportunity to enjoy snacks that turn into lunches; coffee meetings that lead to tapas, loaded with calories; activities that delay lunchtime prompting us to snack on unhealthy snacks, etc. Surviving these kind summer moments is possible, if we pay attention to these mistakes that you should avoid and that we discover with Laura Gallardo , dietitian-nutritionist at the Hotel Barceló Montecastillo
1.- CONFUSE SED WITH HUNGER
In summer we dehydrate much more easily and more than 30% of the population make the mistake of confusing thirst with hunger. How to differentiate it and how to face it? For our nutrition expert, it is very simple: “Drink a large glass of water and wait 5 minutes. If the feeling of hunger remains, then choose a healthy snack like a handful of nuts or a mini sandwich of whole wheat bread with turkey to satisfy you. ”
2.- TAKE “ZERO” REFRESHMENTS, AS A SOCIAL DRINK
Soft drinks without calories reduce the daily energy intake but we must stop thinking that, by taking them, we are taking care of ourselves. For our expert, “they do not make a positive nutritional contribution to the body and also swell the stomach.” According to Laura Gallardo , “if you fancy something with bubbles or have the feeling of having a soda, it is much more beneficial to lean on the sparkling water, accompanied by a slice of lemon and some ice cubes.”
3.- IF YOU HAVE LETTUCE DOESN’T FAT
Consider any salad that includes lettuce as a salad, it is a major mistake. Not always lettuce dishes have a reduced caloric intake. According to Laura Gallardo , “we must be careful to include in our dish ingredients such as goat cheese, nuts, croutons or sauces, since they convert salads into hypercaloric dishes.”
4.- FALL IN A “FRUIT FREE BAR”
Fruit is a fabulous food but not ingested uncontrollably. Do not forget that it contains enough carbohydrates, in the form of sugars, so it is not recommended to eat more than 4 or 5 pieces a day.
5.- SKIP THE DINNER
One of the most common mistakes during these days is usually giving up dinner, for having made excesses throughout the day. Having chopped something insane during the day should not involve skipping a main meal such as dinner. The perfect recommendation is that you have to adapt dinner, to what we have done during the day. Reducing the amount of carbohydrates and fat, choosing foods such as vegetables, is the best option in addition to eating some complete, fat-free protein (white fish or poultry breast).
