Today is International Diabetes Day to educate the population about this disease and to also inform them that in most of situations it could be avoided keeping a healthy diet, doing exercise, keeping a healthy weight and avoiding smoking.
Diabetes is a chronic disease that appears when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body does not effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar, something that is essential for living. However, since 1980 the number of people with diabetes in the world has almost quadrupled. According to estimates, 422 million adults suffered from diabetes in 2014, compared to 108 million in 1980.
Stating this day, the United Nations encouraged its member states to develop national policies for the prevention, treatment and care of diabetes, with the aim of assessing a healthy life for citizens of all ages. Something that seems complicated, but that it’s implicit in the healthy habits of the practitioners of Fitness and bodybuilding, where health is always a priority objective.
