The scriptures tell us that the wise man built his house upon the rock. And I’m telling you that wise women make sure that they get their foundation perfect to build on for the rest of their makeup! And a great foundation is all about the long term – whether that be for all day or for the day of competition or perhaps for a special night out. I am often asked the question “Do I need to wear foundation?” And in most cases, the answer is YES. That is because most of us don’t have even skin tone, we have the odd blemish and many have pigmentation. This means that without foundation we don’t feel as confident in our looks. Concealer can work to hide the dark circles under the eyes and a slight blemish but foundation will give an even and uniform color as well as covering the uneven tone.
3 STEPS FOR A PERFECT FACE
- Always prepare your skin. Do not think that near enough is good enough! Prepped skin gives you the perfect base and this is perhaps the easiest step as all you need is a thoroughly cleansed and moisturized skin. I like to allow several minutes for the moisturizer to do its job and sink into my skin. Another great product to use is a primer. Primers are a base for your foundation which allows the foundation to go on smoother and to also last longer. It is not absolutely necessary but it certainly does help and if you are wanting to have your makeup last from day to evening with minimal touch-ups then definitely use a primer.
- You need to make a choice of what type of coverage you need and of course, this will vary depending on the occasion. There is sheer, medium and full coverage for you to choose from. Let’s say you have a day working in the gym and just want a “natural look” so the words you would look for on your foundation package would be hydrating, sheer or lightweight. But if you are on a night out or perhaps on stage at a competition then you would look for full coverage or matte foundations.
- Applying your foundation is a skill that takes a bit of practice but here my tip to race you ahead. A good makeup sponge is my choice as this allows you to blend and distribute your foundation in an even way without the little streaks that the bristles on makeup brushes came sometimes leave. Dampen your sponge with a few drops of water, dab a fingertip of foundation to the forehead, the cheeks, the nose and the chin. With gentle stipple type motion, blend the foundation toward the hairline and then down toward your jawline. Check to make sure you do not have a line on your jaw if you can see where the foundation finishes then you have not blended sufficiently. Keep blending until it looks like this is just your own perfect face! For any little blemishes or nasty little zits (they always make an appearance on a big night out!) dab a little bit of concealer with a tap-tap motion using your ring finger until that unsightly little zit is out of sight! Now you are ready to add bronzer or blush, some eye shadow and liner and mascara, fill in the eyebrows plus some color on your lips and off you go looking gorgeous! And it all started with a great foundation!
