New IFBB Elite Pro athlete, Galya Maslovskaya, after winning the ACE 2019 Overall Bikini Fitness, answers our questions about her feelings on and of the stage, her training routine and much more.
M&H: What were you feeling backstage at the Arnold Classic Europe, when you heard the announcement that you are an absolute champion and overall winner of Bikini Fitness?
Galya: I couldn’t believe that I had won the title of absolute champion! For me, this is one of the most important and significant contests after the European and World Championships. I was preparing for it very hard and I knew that the strongest athletes from all over the world would come to Barcelona. This is my 5th competitive season and I was very worried. But I so strongly dreamed of this victory and my happiness had no limit when I came first. But when I was announced the absolute champion it was like a dream. After all, I had been mulling that such a thing can only be dreamt about. I’m absolutely so happy!
M&H: In your opinion, what do you have, that the other competitors don’t have?
Galya: I think our category of fitness bikini is very subjective and each athlete is good in their own way. I am tall and for girls with such height, it is rather difficult to make a beautiful athletic shape. I have to put a lot of effort and a lot of training to achieve such a condition. Also, I always think carefully about my thought that not everything is perfect and there is still a lot of work to do.
M&H: Let’s talk about preparation. How many months or weeks does it take you to be in shape for competition?
Galya: My preparation for the first competition lasted 6 months. 4 months of building mass and 2 months of reduction. Now I always try to keep myself in good shape and in the off-season I do not gain a lot of weight. Preparation for Arnold Classic Europe took me 4 months. 3 months I gained weight and 1 month was drying.
M&H: How do you set up your weekly training split? How many days per week?
Galya: I train 4 times a week. 1st workout is a heavy legs workout. 2nd day is a back and arms, 3rd training shoulders and chest and the 4th is training glutes, isolated exercises.
M&H: How long is each workout? And what about cardio?
Galya: Usually my workout lasts 2 hours. I do cardio 4 times per week right after the workout. It’s around 30-40 minutes.
M&H: In your opinion, which are the most common mistakes bikini competitors make during preparations?
