As you can see from the photos, he has a ton of mass. But he also has good proportions and a well balanced physique, which has so far earned him four victories in IFBB Elite Pro shows, including the overall title at the 2018 Arnold Classic Africa. It hasn’t been an easy route to the top. Tomas has been training for 24 years and, as he explains here, he has had to overcome plenty of problems. There is a deep-rooted desire in me to fight to the end, he says, hence his nickname – the Czech Lion. Here Tomas talks about his long road to the summit of the sport as well as his training.
Q: How did you get into bodybuilding?
A: I used to do various sports like ice hockey, football and karate and I also watched Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. I liked developing my muscles and I got a set of weights and a barbel and started exercising with them at home. Eventually, they weren’t enough so I started going with my father to the gym. I started getting stronger and am continuing to do so up until today.
Q: How much did you weigh when you started and did you make gains quickly?
A: I weighed 69 kg and yes I gained muscle very quickly.
Q: What do you remember about your first competition? How did you do?
A: My first introduction to the sport was the Czech Republic Championships. I entered the 70 kg class and took 4th place.
Q: What advice would you give to somebody reading this who wants to be a bodybuilder?
A: Believe in yourself and believe in God. You have to be disciplined and do what’s needed day after day for many years. If you do this then success will eventually come.
